Heron's Sunset Beauty is everywhere to find. And sharing a sunset with one another, in all our unique forms, is such a gift. I was kayaking in from a trip exploring the bay and picking up sea shells. I looked up and saw a Great Blue Heron was ahead of me towards the shore. He stood on a shallow spot poised and looking for fish. I said Hello and let him know he didn't have to move. I said you can keep on fishing I'll go around. He stayed in place and watched as I gently dropped the sail and paddled a loop past.
Then I realized if we do this right we could line him up in the setting sun. A perfect halo to show him off. I moved a little and realized it wasn't going to be easy to get low enough to line him up. I saw that I had to be in the water out towards him. Gently I reached out and let him know I was going to walk toward him but meant no harm. He stayed and didn't move. He watched as I waded out about 30 feet from shore. I could see that wasn't going to be low enough and the sun was setting. I had to get right down on the water surface to line him up since he was so close and low. There was only one way to do this. So without a moments thought I plopped down in the mud. Now I was able to get the camera stable and safe on the water's level. He stayed motionless like he knew he was posing. We both watched the beautiful sight as the sun slowly dropped over the horizon. The End of a Beautiful Day.
I thanked him and he nodded and flew off into the twilight. Sunsets are a special time to Honor the Day, and say many Thanks and Prayers for the gifts and beauty in our lives. A moment to share.
