Romantic Frogs Rights of Spring
This evening I tell a tale of Romance. A tale of things that go on in the cove at the far end of the lake.
I was travelling a long distance and stopped at a State Park with a large lake and tall mountains. A pretty spot to spend a day. As evening approached I heard an increasing sound from one cove in the lake. It sounded like Frogs. As it got ever louder I decided it was definitely frogs. So I got the kayak down and decided to explore. Curiously they were only on one cove of the lake. As I paddled closer the sound got louder. This wasn't just a few frogs enjoying the evening with a song. This was LOTS of Frogs! A Spring Party of Frogs.
The cove was totally full of Frogs everywhere. They must have just come out for spring and it was time to re-unite. One thing they weren't interested in was me. I kayaked right amoung them and they did not care one bit. They were busy catching up. Having a great reunion. As I hung out and watched some were on the shores chatting away. Sharing stories.
Some seemed to be having some kind of Rights Of Spring Ceremony. One was on perched on a mound on an island and all were circled about listening and watching him. For at least a twenty foot radius all attention was solely on him. I gave them space and went on to watch others as we all know surely outsiders wouldn't be welcome in these secret kind of meetings.
Some Frogs were doing their best to look attractive. They were all fancied up and looking their best for the evening.
But most were interested in one thing, Spring Romance.
They were coupling up everywhere. On the islands, in the water under the reeds by the shores, out floating on the waves, beside some strange guy in a kayak, and just about everwhere.
As it got darker I decided I better head back to the camp and leave them to their adventures. A Blessed Night of Lovemaking surely awaited. Yes, Spring was here.... and Love was in the Air.
