The Shape of Water

Today I wanted to share something.
It isn't important on any grand scale.
It is something small.
Something seen by children.
Noticed by a few sailors.
Known often by the rough Lobster man
who you may think wouldn't notice.
And of course very well known by every bird on the water.

Water has shape.
It has texture. It has it's own life. The sea reaches up and kisses the shore, it dances with the wind as their fingers intertwine, it flows to and fro sharing itself wherever it may roam with all it encounters.

Which brings me to this morning's subtle waves pictures. This morning the bay has a beautiful pattern on the waves. The water is covered with small ripples that even flow over the waves.

This is very common and happens often when the sea has decided to turn around in the cove and change from the tide flowing inward for high tide, to now flowing outward towards low tide.

The water will ripple and pattern when that change is taking place. An energetic, "hey everyone, I'm turning around now."  It is one thing we watch for to know it's changing.

But this morning is unique. The high tide was a large surge last night. The sea came in higher than normal with gusto and rolled up over the beaches and onto the shore. She danced with the trees and nearby roadways. People parked their cars away from their house knowing the driveway may be under. Animals moved to higher ground. Now several hours later the sea was back down many feet and easily flowing out mid-tide. Yet the waves still had the pattern of the change on their surface. It was curious. Like she wanted to carry the mood and energy long past the high tide and into the day. A rare scene worth noticing and holding onto this morning.

God knows the temperament and emotions of the Sea. For me I watch and appreciate her moods. I am like a child, a young sailor, and  watch for the subtle things children see. Ripples on the waves show the many shapes of water. A dance of  life.
